Work Based Learning Concept and On-Site Learning Concept
As part of all Bernays studies, students attend field courses and study visits. This type of teaching, which only involves learning outside the classroom in real conditions, confirms the importance of the work-based learning concept as part of study programmes at Edward Bernays University of Applied Sciences. Through numerous field courses, study visits and professional placements in partner organizations of Bernays, students go through the entire educational process experientially from the first year of study and prepare for working in the real sector.
The interactive and dynamic on-site form of learning takes place in cooperation with companies operating on the domestic market. Lectures as part of study visits are held at locations outside Bernays, mentors are always responsible persons within the host company, and the goal of this form of learning is to simulate real business situations that students will find themselves in after completing their studies or already during professional placements.
Study visits as part of the Communication study programmes
Study visits are organized as preparation of students for regular professional placements. During each study visit, communication students actively take notes, read radio news on the air, put themselves in the role of television presenters, write news reports, prepare the front pages of newspapers, participate in the completion of assignments and case studies under the mentorship of leading Croatian journalists and editors in newsrooms of all types, as well as experts in public relations agencies and marketing agencies, and when completed, they fill out a Work Placement Certificate. The purpose of this learning model is to familiarize students with the basic elements of the workplace and functioning of partner institutions before joining the labour market.
Visits are organized in media companies, public relations agencies, marketing agencies, digital agencies, event agencies, corporations and other organizations whose scope of work includes jobs related to public relations and communication management, marketing and sales, media or journalism, lobbying, internal communication or human resources, and management processes.
Study visits and field courses as part of Business Economics study programmes
Study visits and field courses provide students with practical experience and insight into the business world. During study visits, students visit companies, financial institutions and other organizations, where they meet with business experts and gain insight into their way of conducting business. Field courses intended for students who decide to specialize in tourism, include going to various locations in order to explore different forms of tourist destinations and to establish contact with the management of tourist boards and other stakeholders in the destination. This allows students to apply theoretical classroom knowledge to real-world situations and understand the practical challenges they face. Study visits and field courses contribute to the comprehensive education of business economics students, strengthening their understanding of business processes, developing analytical skills and encouraging interaction with industry professionals.
Field teaching as part of Tourism study programmes
Students at selected locations in Croatia and abroad are familiarized with different forms of tourist destinations and their life cycle, and establish contact with the management of tourist boards and other stakeholders from the public and private sectors in the destination (congress offices, hotels, travel agencies, catering facilities, transport companies, museums , tour guides, etc.). In this manner, students become familiar, outside of the classroom, how the destination value chain works and who are all the stakeholders in the tourism development of the destination. Field courses are conducted outside the Republic of Croatia and in Croatia in the continental and coastal parts of Croatia.
