Studying tourism at Bernays
The modern development of the tourism sector implies the design of completely new and innovative services, but also the implementation of new and different activities of tourism employees, for which higher education is required for implementation. Tourist destinations have become one of the decisive factors for the development of tourism since the focus has shifted from tour operators and travel agencies to the tourist destination, local stakeholders in tourism and tourism companies, and the local population, which is increasingly participating in the tourism industry as private accommodation renters, managers of family rural estates, souvenir manufactures, owners of private museums, owners of private hotels and camps, but also suppliers of top-quality domestic food to large hotel chains. Destination managers and destination management organizations will most often take care of the development of the destination, the improvement of the quality of the offer and the development of cooperation between local entities, so you need to be well educated for such jobs.
Recognizing the social nature of the tourism product is important for the sake of the local community, as it plays an important role in creating tourism products that are socially and culturally sustainable. These are the topics that Bernays’ tourism study programme deals with, and which offer students and future tourism experts the competences necessary for this type of tourism development.

Study programme structure
The undergraduate study programme represents the most innovative tourism studies in Croatia in terms of programme, content and methodology, and it is aimed at developing the dynamic component of tourism. The unique concept of the programme is based on concern for the safety and health protection of the local population and tourists, the accessibility of the tourist destination (physical and marketing), the quality of the tourist experience, and social and environmental sustainability.
Special attention in the education of students during their studies is devoted to the importance of the tourist experience and experience as part of which students are directed to look at the tourism area in a holistic manner, through an economic, anthropological and sociological perspective, which includes areas of resources, activities and experiences.
The concept of the study programme, throughout all three years (six semesters), follows the development process of a tourist destination, and in the final third year, through various "rejuvenation" strategies, you gain insight into ways to recognize indicators that point to the stagnation of a destination, to analyse them and to propose improvements and new models for the successful operation of the destination as a comprehensive system.
