Quality assurance in higher education is one of the foundations of an effective system, which is systematically dealt with by the Office for Quality Management at Bernays. All activities conducted by Bernays within the framework of quality assurance are aligned with the legal regulations and international standards in the area of higher education.
From its very beginnings, Bernays has been striving to achieve high standards in its quality assurance system. In addition to constantly monitoring the quality of the teaching process, the professional and scientific advancement of full-time teachers and external associates, Bernays is especially proud of the grading system based exclusively on learning outcomes, introduced in 2015. Thus, Bernays became one of the few universities of applied sciences in Croatia to fully apply the European guidelines on the grading of student work precisely through learning outcomes.
The Quality Assurance Committee, together with the Office for Quality Management, organizes, coordinates and implements quality assurance procedures, prepares the necessary documentation, promotes a culture of quality assurance and notifies the academic and local community about the quality system at Bernays.
With its programmes, organization, teachers and technical equipment, Bernays is a modern and high-quality higher education institution that encourages the improvement and enhancement of the quality system through:
- The application of standards and guidelines for quality assurance in the European higher education area;
- Clearly defined standards for the development of the quality system in the most important documents of Bernays;
- Continuous monitoring of quality and, based on this, periodic revision of Bernays' quality policy and strategy;
- Promotion of quality standards at all levels of Bernays;
- Promoting the active role of all organizational units and actively encouraging student engagement in the quality assurance system;
- Organization of the teaching process and evaluation of student work through learning outcomes;
- Continuous research of market needs and, based on research results, development of new study programmes;
- Systematic monitoring of study programme completion and undertaking activities to improve this aspect;
- Continuous education of employees in their fields of interest and expertise, as well as improvement of teaching, science, research and professional working conditions;
- Continuous monitoring of the development and work of teachers according to student evaluations; encouraging teachers in their further education, enabling and encouraging the publication of academic and professional papers, encouraging the creation of quality teaching materials and the advancement of teaching staff to higher positions;
- Systematic monitoring of the satisfaction of all stakeholders – students, teachers, employees, academic community, Bernays’ work placement partners, local community and business entities;
- Encouraging and strengthening cooperation with other higher education institutions and economic entities in Croatia and abroad and encouraging the mobility of students, teachers and administrative staff;
- Continuous improvement of the teaching process while providing all students the opportunity to spend part of their time each academic year in work placements in media companies, public relations agencies and marketing agencies, companies and corporations, hotel and tourism organizations, travel agencies and tourist boards, destination management companies, event management companies and agencies, professional associations in tourism, national parks and nature parks, marinas and ports for nautical tourism, companies and institutions and other public or private organizations engaged in activities in accordance with the professional study programmes;
- Continuous development and initiation of academic projects;
- Responsible and conscientious financial operations aimed at the development of Bernays;
- Bernays’ quality policy is regularly monitored and improved as necessary;
- In Edward Bernays University of Applied Sciences’ Strategy for the 2021-2026 Period set were development goals and, in accordance with them, tasks and plans for their realization in accordance with the available resources.
